Early Sunday morning, a man attempted to set fire to a synagogue in Bloomfield, New Jersey. At around 3:19 a.m., the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at the front door of Temple Ner Tamid. Security footage captured the man lighting the device and throwing it at the door before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the glass bottle broke but did not cause any damage to the building.

The Bloomfield Division of Public Safety Police responded to the temple at 9:30 a.m. Sunday after a report of property damage. The police are currently searching for the suspect and have increased patrols of the area.

The synagogue released a statement saying, “We are grateful that the damage was minimal and that no one was hurt. We are deeply saddened by this act of hatred and we will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our community.”
