Actor Jeremy Renner was injured on New Year’s Day in Reno, Nevada, while trying to prevent a snowplow from hitting his nephew. According to a report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Renner and his adult nephew, Alexander Fries, had been trying to dig a Ford pickup truck out of the snow when the accident occurred.

Renner had towed the truck out of the snow on a private road and parked it in the middle of the street. Fries then made a U-turn with the snowplow, called a Pistenbully, which started sliding down a hill. Without putting the emergency brake on, Renner attempted to step up on the track to divert the plow or stop it, but was instead crushed by the tractor.

Renner has since given a health update, saying he broke “30 plus” bones in the accident. He is currently recovering from his injuries.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
