San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus said that the victims were members of the migrant community and that the suspect had legal possession of a semi-automatic weapon that was registered to him. She added that there was no known connection between the victims and the suspect other than that they may have been co-workers.
The sheriff also said that the suspect had not shown any red flags prior to the incident and that it appeared to be a case of someone “snapping” and “innocent people being killed.” Five of the seven victims were men.
