Seven people were killed and one critically wounded in a mass shooting at two mushroom farms in the city of Half Moon Bay, California on Monday afternoon, according to CBS Bay Area.

The suspect, Chunli Zhao, 67, was taken into custody Monday after deputies found him in a vehicle in the parking lot of a sheriff’s substation more than two hours after the shootings in Half Moon Bay.

Deputies found four bodies with gunshot wounds at the scene, and a fifth victim, also suffering from gunshot wounds, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus described the incident as “horrific”.

Deputies then raced to a nearby second shooting scene — Concord Farms, also a mushroom farm. At the second scene, two more bodies were found with gunshot wounds.

The incident was the second California mass shooting in three days and was followed hours later by yet another. Authorities are still working to determine the motive of the suspect.

Half Moon Bay is a small coastal city of about 11,000 residents located about 30 miles south of San Francisco. The community is now mourning the lives lost in the tragic shooting.
