Former Vice President Mike Pence’s lawyer has informed the National Archives that a “small number of documents” containing potentially sensitive or classified information were found in Pence’s personal home.
Greg Jacob, who is representing Pence on matters pertaining to the National Archives, said in a letter last week that the documents were “inadvertently boxed and transported” to Pence’s home at the end of the last administration. He added that Pence was unaware of the documents’ existence and is willing to cooperate with any appropriate inquiry.
Jacob said that Pence asked “outside counsel” to look for records bearing classified markings following news that documents were found in President Joe Biden’s Delaware home. After the review, the team identified a “small number of documents that could potentially contain sensitive or classified information.”
The National Archives has not yet commented on the situation. It is unclear what the documents contain or what will happen to them.
Pence served as Vice President under President Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021. He is currently a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation and is reportedly considering a run for president in 2024.
