Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna has hailed two “heroes” who disarmed a mass shooter on Saturday night. The suspect had just killed 10 people at a ballroom in Monterey Park when he went to a second location in Alhambra.

At a news conference on Sunday, Luna said the suspect was about to open fire at a dance studio in Alhambra when two community members wrestled the “assault pistol” away from him.

“I consider them heroes, because they saved lives,” Luna said.

The suspect, who is described as an Asian male, has not been identified. The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

A gathering was held on Sunday to honor the victims of the mass shooting. Beth Paz and Jolie Slater, two of the attendees, comforted each other during the event.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
