Constable David Carrick, a 48-year-old serving Metropolitan Police officer, has admitted to a total of 49 offenses, including four counts of rape, false imprisonment and indecent assault. The guilty pleas were entered on Monday at the Old Bailey in London.

Carrick has now admitted to 24 counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape and 14 counts of sexual assault, in addition to the other charges, most of which were related to sexual violence or coercion. The offenses were committed over a period of nearly two decades.

The Metropolitan Police force has issued a public apology for the devastating breach of public trust caused by Carrick’s actions. Detective Chief Superintendent Nicki Watson, of the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “The victims have shown immense courage in coming forward and reporting these offences and I would like to thank them for their bravery.”

The Met Police has also launched an internal investigation into the case, and has said that it is committed to ensuring that all victims of sexual violence are treated with respect and dignity.

Carrick is due to be sentenced on February 11th.
