Newport News, VA – On Thursday, Newport News Public Schools Superintendent George Parker revealed that a school official was notified of the possibility of a weapon in the possession of a 6-year-old student prior to the shooting of a first-grade teacher at Richneck Elementary School on January 6.
During an online meeting with parents, Parker said that a search of the boy’s backpack found a 9mm handgun. He also said that the school official was notified earlier that day of the possible presence of the weapon.
