First Lady Jill Biden Successfully Undergoes Surgery to Remove Two Cancerous Lesions

First Lady Jill Biden underwent a successful procedure Wednesday to remove two cancerous lesions, according to a memo from the White House physician.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in the memo that the first lesion was located above the First Lady’s right eye and was removed in a procedure known as Mohs surgery. During the pre-operative consultation, a second lesion was found on the left side of the First Lady’s chest and was also removed.

The First Lady, 71, was accompanied by President Biden to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland for the procedure. Before the surgery, doctors noticed the areas of concern on her left eyelid and the left side of her chest.

The White House physician said in the memo that the lesions were both confirmed to be basal cell carcinoma. He added that the First Lady is in good health and is expected to make a full recovery.

The First Lady’s skin cancer screening is part of a larger effort to promote skin cancer awareness. The White House has encouraged Americans to get regular skin cancer screenings and to take steps to protect themselves from the sun.
