Enoch City, Utah, was rocked Wednesday by the news that a family of three adults and five children were found dead inside a home in the rural southwest Utah city.
Officers responded to a welfare check at the home, and discovered the bodies of the eight family members, all of whom had apparent gunshot wounds, according to a news release from Enoch City officials.
Rob Dotson, Enoch City manager, said Wednesday night that his community is mourning the family’s deaths.
“We all know this family, many of us have served with them in church, in community and gone to school with these individuals, and so this community at this time is just in shock,” Dotson said.
The investigation remains active, but city officials said they don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, underscoring there are no suspects at large.
“It’s hard to describe in words the emotions that are going through the people who live here,” Dotson said.
The news release added that the investigation continues and that more information would be released later. Enoch City is located about 245 miles south of Salt Lake City.
