Millions of Californians are bracing for yet another atmospheric river this week, which is expected to bring widespread flooding, mudslides, and power outages to the state. An atmospheric river is a long, narrow band of moisture drawn from the tropics that can cause significant damage.

The National Weather Service’s Bay Area office has warned that this storm is likely to be one of the most impactful systems on a widespread scale in a long while. This will be the third atmospheric river since December 26th, and it is expected to be even more intense than the last.

In Los Angeles, a cold weather alert has been declared as wind chill temperatures are expected to dip below 32 degrees in some communities. The storm is expected to start Wednesday, and many of the same communities that were hit hard by heavy wind and rain over the weekend will be walloped again.

The flooding and mudslides caused by the previous atmospheric river killed at least one person and contributed to power outages. California residents are urged to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from the upcoming storm.
