The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals Monday night game was abruptly called off after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field. On Tuesday, the NFL announced that the game will not be resumed this week.
The NFL said in a statement that after speaking with both teams and the NFL Players Association, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs that the game will not be resumed this week. The league said it is “continuing to evaluate the situation and will provide updates as appropriate.”
The Bills confirmed that Hamlin, 24, remains sedated and in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s intensive care unit. The NFL said it had consulted with both teams and the NFL Players Association before deciding to postpone the game.
The Week 18 games, which are set to be the final contests of the regular season, will go on as scheduled. The NFL left the door slightly ajar for Buffalo and Cincinnati to possibly restart play at another time.
The league said it is continuing to evaluate the situation and will provide updates as appropriate. The NFL has not yet announced when the postponed game will be made up.
