The family of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin expressed their gratitude on Tuesday for the outpouring of love and support they have received since Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a game on Monday night.
The family did not provide a specific medical update on Hamlin, but thanked the first responders and medical staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for their care.
At the same time, a charity fundraiser created by Hamlin has been receiving millions of dollars in donations since his collapse. Just days before the incident, Hamlin had posted on Instagram about his Chasing M’s Foundation holding its third annual toy drive for children in need.
Since then, the fundraiser has been inundated with nearly $4 million contributed by 148,000 individual donors. The 24-year-old player needed his heart restarted on the Paycor Stadium field in Ohio after a tackle during the Bills’ game.
“Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us,” Hamlin’s family wrote in a message posted on the Twitter account of the player’s marketing representative, Jordon Rooney.
The family expressed their appreciation for the support they have received and asked for continued prayers for Hamlin’s recovery. They also thanked the Bills organization and the NFL for their support.
