Walters rose to fame in the early 1960s as the “TODAY Girl,” a reporting role reserved for fashion shows, lifestyle trends and the weather.

She was the first female anchor of a network news program and the pre-eminent interviewer on television, who could deliver the toughest of questions and make viewers care about the truth.

Walters was known for her hard hitting questions and wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult topics, like asking Russian President Vladimir Putin if he had ever ordered the death of a rival.

She also asked Katharine Hepburn, “What kind of tree are you?” — a follow up to something the legendary actor had said.

Walters was also the co-creator of the hit ABC daytime show “The View” and worked on the ABC news magazine show, “20/20,” for 25 years.

Throughout her career, she was an inspiration to many women in the media industry, including Oprah Winfrey and Robin Roberts.

Walters’ death was confirmed by her representative, Cindi Berger, who said she died “peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones.”

Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
